Katie’s Korner

Ashtabula_County Madsen 2Owned by Beverly and Harry Biery, Katies Korner shares the one-story, frame building on the south side of The Strip with Madsen Donuts, which the Biery family owned until 2005, when they sold to their son, Keith.

Katie’s Korner opened in 1999 and sells Katie’s Korner Home Made Ice Cream. The company has been in business since 1983 and is owned by Katherine Martin and her family. The hand-crafted ice cream is sold at franchises and prestigious restaurants, including The Greenbrier, a five-star resort in West Virginia.

Beverly Biery operates the shop with help from her grandchildren and hired employees. As of 2015, she had no plans to retire or sell out.

“Customers tell me that they can’t believe I’m still working. I tell them ‘You’ll find me dead on the floor with ice cream cones in my hands.’ I like it here.”

A resident of Saybrook Township, Beverly and husband lived in Niles and Youngstown before settling in Ashtabula County. Both were Chestnut Grove campers as children and youth and spent their summers at GOTL. They purchased Madsen Doughnuts in 1974.
